Valentines update:
Unfortunately due to covid we will be unable to have students bring in Valentines or gifts.
Apologies for the confusing blog/parent message. I sent out the notification before knowing we were unable to bring stuff in!
Next Wednesday we will make cards for our family members!
Reading...Give it a Shot
BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program. Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day. Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?
When your child reads 30 minutes they will earn one reading card. I have sent home a green folder with the sheet to track your minutes! Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! The reading competition started Monday, January 18th and ends March 26th. Teachers will be tracking totals in order to hopefully win a virtual visit from the Calgary Flames. The more they read… the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school virtually!

Today in room 5:
Everyone braved the cold weather this morning to get to school and start the day with some literacy centers!
After literacy centers we went off to gym with Mr Sadowsky to play lacrosse.
When we returned to class we had some tasty snacks before finishing our letter printing, sentences and sounds practice!
After recess we read a book called The Invisible String. This wonderful book helps us to think of our loved ones and how we are always connected. The "Invisible String" is the love that never goes away and always us to keep our loved ones near, despite being in different places. Even loved ones who passed away are still connected to us by our love strings. We are in the process of making an art craft to show the ones we love that we are all connected! They will be sent home tomorrow :)
Today we finished Charlottes Web the novel! It was a great book with description, excitement, dialogue and a sad but also happy ending! To see this story through another media we watched the 2006 Charlottes Web movie. After we finished the movie we talked about how the book was different the movie. We also discussed how the Charlottes Web movie connected to the book The Invisible String.
