Today in room 5:

We began our day with catch up time before calendar and looked at the days of the week, month, weather, and number of the day.

 We expanded on the number of the day representing the number in different ways.

Our number today was 15. 

We counted to 15 using tallies: |||||||||||||||

We even counted to fifteen on our hands! 

There are several ways to represent numbers. 

Try representing the number 14 in at least 4 different ways at home!

After calendar the students had music before snack and recess. Take a look at Mr Wiens blog for some info on what's going on in music!

Today we finished painting our fall tree art! We used two different kinds of paint and 3 different brush techniques in order to create our art. I will send the work home soon...I would like to display it in the room for a little while first!

After lunch we had gym in which we played compound games.

For the remainder of the afternoon our class worked on the final pillar of care reflection. 

We began by brainstorming how we care for our learning in the classroom. Some of the ideas we came up with were:

• Listening to the teacher.
• Practice reading by myself. 
• Finish my work on time.
• Use a timer or headphones to help me focus.

Students wrote, "I show care for learning by... " then copied a sentence of their choice. Grade 2 had to copy 3 sentences, or 2 sentences and create your own. I encourage students to push themselves and write an additional sentence each time.

Grade 1's= 1 sentence.    Grade 2's= 3 sentences.
