Reading...Give it a Shot

BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program.  Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day.  Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?

When your child reads 30 minutes they will earn one reading card. I have sent home a green folder with the sheet to track your minutes! Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! To earn these new cards students must read for 60 minutes. The reading competition started Monday, January 18th and ends March 26th. Teachers will be tracking totals in order to hopefully win a virtual visit from the Calgary Flames. The more they read… the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school virtually!

Thank you for your support and work with encouraging your child to read!

Go Flames Go!

Today in room 5:

We began our day with a question! We have been doing this all week long as a way to have students share their opinions on a question with their peers and the class. It also helps to get out some of those early morning chit chats :)

We then moved into listening to reading on the ipads using razkids. If you are unable to log into Razkids please email me and I will send you the password.

After our snack we moved into social studies. Today we finished a mini flip book which covered Iqaluit's natural resources, goods and jobs that come from each!

Students then went off to gym with Mr Sadowsky to do some phys. ed stations.

When we returned to class we moved away from subtraction for a day and did some graphing!

Today the students graphed their favourite technology to use at home. The choices were:

-computer/laptops

-Ipad/tablet/phone

-Video games

-Watch TV

Students were given a sticky note and then invited to come and choose their favourite tech.

We then turned the collected data into a bar graph and graphed the information as a class. We talked about our findings with questions such as, "Which technology is the most common favourite of students?"

We finished our day with a sharing circle. Today we talked about how to resolve conflicts such as students intentionally bugging others. As a class we practiced things you can say to help others understand how it makes you feel.

Ready for the weekend!

Have a great evening and weekend everyone!
