Valentine's Day!

We will still celebrate Valentine’s Day safely in our COVID-19 reality.  A day about caring and kindness is much needed right now and we plan to celebrate it in a way that will be meaningful for students and still be safe.

If your child would like to give cards this year, in consultation with Safety Advisory Services, the school is  asking that families to ensure that all Valentine’s cards/gifts will need to come to the classroom no later than Friday, February 5th I will need to quarantine them in an envelope for 5 days, which is more than existing 3-day guidelines for quarantining items, to be distributed on February 10th (before the Teacher’s Convention/Family Day/Valentine’s Day weekend).  Any Valentine’s Day cards that arrive after February 5th will need to wait until after the Valentine’s Day weekend to be distributed, on February 16th.

There is no obligation to buy anything or make anything but If you do choose to bring anything in please bring enough for our whole class. We have 17 students in our class. I am not permitted to give out class lists.

I’m looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day as a class!

Reading...Give it a Shot

BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program.  Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day.  Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?

When your child reads 30 minutes they will earn one reading card. I have sent home a green folder with the sheet to track your minutes! Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! The reading competition started Monday, January 18th and ends March 26th. Teachers will be tracking totals in order to hopefully win a virtual visit from the Calgary Flames. The more they read… the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school virtually!

Thank you for your support and work with encouraging your child to read!

Go Flames Go!

APOLOGIES FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO HAND OUT CARDS TODAY! THEY WILL BE SENT HOME TOMORROW :)

A note from Mr Sadowsky,

Today we will begin jump rope for heart which will run for the entire month of February. Students will be doing skipping and hula hooping in phys ed when they are with their classroom teacher to promote this. (They will be doing lacrosse when with Mr. Sadowsky) If they choose to fundraise this year, all donations will be made online. Due to COVID we can't accept cash or cheques. A parent letter will be coming home today which explains how they register online so they can collect donations through their account. We will collect donations from Feb 1st to Feb 28th. All prizes for collecting donations this year will be gift cards due to COVID and a list of prizes can be found on the website when they register. Anyone who raises a minimum of $20.00 will also be added to a draw for a bonus prize through our school. We have about 13 prizes to give away which include soccer balls, basketballs, skipping ropes and 1 mini hockey set which includes a mini net, 2 mini sticks and a mini ball.

Thank you in advance for all of your support to help a great cause. If you have any questions please contact Mr. Sadowsky. grsadowsky@cbe.ab.ca
