Valentines update:
Unfortunately due to covid we will be unable to have students bring in Valentines or gifts.
Apologies for the confusing blog/parent message. I sent out the notification before knowing we were unable to bring stuff in!
Next Wednesday we will make cards for our family members!
Reading...Give it a Shot
BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program. Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day. Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?
When your child reads 30 minutes they will earn one reading card. I have sent home a green folder with the sheet to track your minutes! Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! The reading competition started Monday, January 18th and ends March 26th. Teachers will be tracking totals in order to hopefully win a virtual visit from the Calgary Flames. The more they read… the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school virtually!

Today in room 5:
We began our day with our morning literacy centers before heading off to gym to play lacrosse.
After snack we moved onto letter J and practiced sounds, words, and how to write a sentence using our wow words and letter J words.
Unfortunately it was too cold to play outside for recess so instead we used our own baggies of lego and watched the lego movie for 10 minutes!
We then had an addition quiz testing the students ability to solve single and double digit questions with and without regrouping.
The remainder of our day was spent building magnet toys and products! We spent roughly 90 minutes building and showing how magnets have magnetic fields, attract and repel and can attract metals containing steel, iron and nickel!
We finished up our day by watching a few more minutes of the lego movie while I handed out reading give it a shot cards! Kids worked hard today and will be coming home tired :)
