Please start bringing in recycle supplies to create a device to keep something warm or cold for a period of time! We will be doing this experiment hopefully next week if we finish all the preparation.

Reading...Give it a Shot 

BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program.  Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day.  Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?  

When your child reads 30 minutes they will earn one reading card. I have sent home a green folder with the sheet to track your minutes! Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! To earn these new cards students must read for 60 minutes. The reading competition started Monday, January 18^th and ends March 26^th. Teachers will be tracking totals in order to hopefully win a virtual visit from the Calgary Flames. The more they read… the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school virtually!

Today in room 5:

We began our day with our morning question: How will you show care for others today?

The students had a bunch of great ideas and I am happy to that I saw several acts of care and kindness throughout the day!

We then moved into reading to self in which we stayed focused and reading for a new record of 14 minutes!

After reading I had the students write their monthly sample using a picture:

Students loved writing about a snowman and how it ended up in a hot chocolate bath!

After writing we moved into math. Today we continued exploring double digit subtraction questions using our strategies! Tomorrow we will take a break from these to build and explore 3D shapes. We will be using the shapes to create shape nets that will form the outsides of our hot and cold devices!

When we finished lunch we moved into reading to someone and set a record of 14 minutes of reading!

In gym we were practicing handball! Today I had the students practicing shooting on a person in net. We do not have handball again this week but we will start some games alongside skill practice next week!

We finished up our day by learning about insulation and different insulators that we can use for designing our projects.
