Today in room 5!
We began our day with attendance and a sharing circle! I wanted to know how everyones break was and how we are feeling today being back at school.
After our morning meeting filling in the calendar, days of the week, months, seasons, number of days in school and weather the students had music with Mr Wiens.
When we returned from recess on the playground I introduced the students to our new wow words. We practiced breaking them down using stretchy snake, listening for beginning and end sounds, and talked about some of the rules that ou, oo, and a can make.
After lunch we had time for a much needed desk clean to make sure our desks were ready for the new year. No garbage or loose papers allowed in these desks!
In gym we started a new unit: Badminton! This week we are practicing first with the paddle rackets to get used to the motions needed for serving, controlling the racket and keeping the eye on the ball (or bird).
After gym we started math. In math today we practiced building and adding two by one digit addition questions and adding them together. We used blocks as a support and those kids who finished all the questions began working on double digit questions!
When we returned from recess we began talking about our new unit in science: Magnets! For science today we had a discussion on what we already knew and wondered about this new topic. I was quite impressed when students began talking about magnetic fields and the ability to stick to different metals and objects! We finished up the lesson by watching Bill Nye's Magnetism video to get ourselves hooked on what we are going to be learning about this month.
We finished up by cleaning up the room and then headed on home!
Have a wonderful evening everyone!
Mr Lancee :)
