Please start bringing in recycle supplies to create a device to keep something warm or cold for a period of time! We will be doing this experiment tomorrow! We decided as a class to build the main box/container using shape nets! So we only need supplies to go inside of the shape net boxes (cardboard, styrofoam, paper) and any other insulators you may want to use!  I will also bring in supplies for students!

Reading...Give it a Shot 

BHS has enrolled in the Calgary Flames reading program.  Students will be bringing home tracking sheets to monitor how much they read each day.  Can you please sign the spot needed if they are reading at home?  

When your child reads 30 minutes they will earn one reading card. I have sent home a green folder with the sheet to track your minutes! Once they collect all 24, they can move onto the bonus card collection of Harvey the Hound doing funny things! To earn these new cards students must read for 60 minutes. The reading competition started Monday, January 18^th and ends March 26^th. Teachers will be tracking totals in order to hopefully win a virtual visit from the Calgary Flames. The more they read… the more chance we have of the Calgary Flames visiting our school virtually!

Language Arts:

• Letter blends: bl, cl, sl, fl, gl
• Reading to self, someone and listening to reading
• Story writing: Characters - character traits, feelings and creating a character
• Novel Study: The BFG- We began reading this novel last Thursday!

Math:

• Double digit subtraction with regrouping (borrowing)
• Shape nets building cubes (science)

Social

• Daily life of people from Iqaluit!
• Transportation

Science

• This is a big science week!
• Today we made the shape nets for our insulating devices
• Tomorrow we will be building the inside of the devices
• Wednesday we will test our devices!

Art

• Comic character creation

Make sure you keep up with mathletics and are doing some extra reading or razkids at home :)
