Today in room 5:
Today we began our day with some catch up/reading time. During this first half hour students know they can finish up work from the previous day and read if they are finished.
We then had gym led by Mr Sadowsky, in which the students played compound games!
When we returned to class we began our Morning Meeting routine. During this time we look at the calendar, days of the week, weather, days of school, months of the year and we did a sorting exercise. Some of the pages of the morning routine are below!
After our morning meeting we had snack before heading out to the soccer fields for recess.
When we returned I gave everyone a chance to finish their care for others writing that we worked on the previous day. During this writing project we talk about how we can show "Care for Others" at home and school. Once we finish brainstorming we begin writing/copying one to three sentences (grade 1 vs grade 2) on how we care for others.
After lunch we had mindfulness and a short reading block before starting on math.
Today in math I gave the students 3 sets of colored blocks. There instructions...make a pattern using either 2 or 3 colors. The students busily worked to create several of different patterns. We will be discussing how patterns can be broken into AB AABB AAB or many other types of repeating patterns on Friday.
After Math, we had recess before starting social studies. In social we began exploring "ALL ABOUT ME" starting with "I Love..." This short drawing project was a way for students to show who/what they love and an opportunity to share their ideas with their class!
The students were so hard working and focused for the last chunk of the day we enjoyed some relaxing playdough for 10 minutes before cleaning up and heading out the door.
